3rd Grade Laurel Burch inspired Cats

After learning about Laurel Burch, we practiced designs and patterns in our sketchbooks. Students picked a color of construction paper (11x17") and used a tracer for just the body outline of the cat. I gave them two options-sitting cat or standing cat.
Next they learned how to draw the cat's face step by step in pencil and added their patterns and designs. After the design was finished they traced over everything in black sharpie.
The following art time was spent learning about using colored pencils, blending, and gradation. Once they had that down they began coloring their cats. Finally, they cut their cats out carefully and glued them on to 12x18" black construction paper.
