I am going to begin this project with my 6th graders this week, but I think it could easily be done with younger kids. These are two of my examples I tried out this weekend. The paper is 9x12 construction paper, or watercolor paper would also work nicely. First a giant pumpkin is drawn, then grass, stem and leaves in pencil. Students then take a glue bottle and trace over all of their pencil lines. Next art class glue will be dry and students start painting using wet on wet watercolor technique. Encourage color mixing so that students end up with splotches. Next class they use sharpie to outline every glue line and also any interesting splotches their paint made. The end results are beautiful!
I love the interesting contour lines that are highlighted with Sharpie. I'll have to try this!
ReplyDeleteThose are so cool!!!!!!!!!!! jan
ReplyDeleteThese really are beautiful! I never would have thought of outlining the "interesting splotches," but doing that really makes the picture sing! We may have to do this one. Thanks for sharing it. I look forward to seeing the results.
ReplyDeleteThese pumpkins are brilliant! I will be trying this project out with my 2 boys. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI saw a project similar to this a couple years ago but couldn't remember exactly how they did it. Looks awesome, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove this project!! Have done glue lines before with oil pastels to fill in the color. This almost looks like stained glass.
ReplyDeleteAnother one that I am loving! Great Job!
ReplyDeleteI did this with my 3rd grade class and everyone loved it! We got more compliments on this than any project done so far this year. Oddly enough, each child's picture came out really well, no funny looking ones. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThese look amazing! Have you done it with other subject matters (other than pumpkins)?
ReplyDeleteI just did this project with my 3rd-5th graders and they turned out great! Only problem I encountered was with the glue. We used washable glue, and I found that as they began watercolor painting the glue would wash off the paper, taking away most of the cool texture. What kind of glue did you use?
