3rd Grade: Warm/Cool Still Life

This lesson was thought up by one of the other art teachers I teach with.  She had collected various real dried flowers (Allium, Hydrangea, Eucalyptus, and Fountain Grass) and placed them in a vase.  We placed one vase in the middle of each of our four tables and had the students draw their still life in pencil first.  Then they sharpied over the lines, and finally used chalk pastels to add color.  They had to choose whether to use only warm or only cool colors.  Simple one day lesson!

  5. Gorgeous, they are so free kids and pastels! I do it once a year (chalk pastels) because of getting their hands washed! Bravo you brave girl.

  6. Easy tip for this one for mess-free work...The kids were not allowed to take the chalk pastels out of the trays. They had to leave them in the trays, wrap a little paper towel around their pointer finger and wipe the color they wanted onto their pointer, then wipe it on their paper...Then they move the paper towel a little when adding a new color. Completely mess-free!!! :D
